Performance Series for Children & Youth

The Gainesville Ballet Theatre is an extraordinary cultural resource for our community.

Since the 1995-96 season, our "Performance Series for Children and Youth" has allowed over 25,000 school children to attend abbreviated versions of our productions at little or no cost.

These invitations encourage important young minds to imagine, explore, and delight in the world of dance. The Gainesville Ballet Theatre continues to pursue its commitment to community service and artistic creation.

Each holiday season the Gainesville Ballet Theatre presents the annual School Show production of Hans Christian Andersen's "The Little Match Girl~Act II".

In Act II of this original story ballet, the little match girl envisions dolls and stuffed animals from the toy store and sweets from the candy store as they come to life and dance just for her. At II has always been a great favorite of children and adults alike.

The Gainesville Ballet Theatre has six original story ballets that have been created throughout the company's history, and are still performed through a rotation, to be presented specifically for GBT's "Performance Series for Children and Youth".

These include "The Dancing Princesses", "Alice's Adventures", "La Boutique Fantasque" (The Enchanted Toyshop), "Hansel and Gretel", "Peter and the Wolf", and "Snow White".

Our school performances are held at the Phillips Center for the Performing Arts.
View our Performance Season for dates and Show times.

Ticket prices are $4.00 each, with one teacher or chaperone admitted free for every ten students that attend.
